Why I Hate the Word 'Vegan'

I hate the word vegan. And I'm not the only one.

People hear the word and run a mile, despite it representing one of the most peaceful and compassionate movements out there.

As soon as someone hears the word vegan, they think: "Oh, one of THOSE people who enjoy shoving their opinions down our throats." and granted, yes some vegans are very pushy, but the majority aren't. The vast majority of vegans I have come across have been understanding and supportive if you have a slip-up or you happen to have a non-vegan craving. We've all been there and understand any struggles.

There have been many times in my life where people have told me I'm a pushy vegan for sharing (not violent) videos on Facebook or pictures of my plant-powered meals, but it's completely okay for them to share their double cheeseburger from McDonald's and it's not viewed as pushy.

Vegans aren't the issue, the brainwashing is. I don't blame anyone for not being vegan, but it has to be understood that we have been brainwashed our whole lives. For more information on what I mean by this, I recommend checking out Cowspiracy and What The Health (both on Netflix).

There are even brands that label their foods as vegetarian and not vegan in order to entice more customers. For example, Linda McCartney Sausage Rolls are labelled vegetarian in big, bold writing but in small print, it says they're suitable for vegans. It's smart in a way - but annoying for us vegans because we have to look more closely!

Long story short, we're just all very passionate people who have a belief that we want to share. All we want to do is make sure that humans and animals are on the same level. We're not superior to anyone, in fact, the world would thrive if humans were to go extinct. Think about that.

Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions for future blog posts. I am also happy to answer any questions about veganism you may have.
